Unfortunately there's been some continuing issues with this cache and there is no reaction from the owner. Since the cache no longer meets the Guidelines requirements, I am archiving it. I'm also archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

If you think you have legitimate reasons for lack of maintenance and want to restore the cache in the near future, please let me know as soon as possible by the email provided in my profile. The message must include the GC code and the name of the cache. If the cache meets the requirements of the Guidelines and the reasons for unarchiving are justified, I may unarchive the cache.

IMPORTANT:
In case of permanent archiving of the cache, the owners are obliged to remove everything that they have placed on the field in relation to the cache (container and all placed waypoints).

Thank you for your understanding and best regards.

Geocache Description:

A quay in Novi Sad, a line of defense against the Danube

For centuries, the untamed Danube showed its strength in the spring by cleaning everything that the first inhabitants of Novi Sad would build and make on its banks. The first embankments were built by the border authorities, and then by the Chamber authorities.

The flood of 1770 was a real disaster, because the Danube entered the city that year. Then embankments and moats were built, which proved to be particularly strong when they withstood a particularly high water level in 1827.

In the beginning, comprehensive protective embankments were not built, but only certain lower streets, such as Dunavska, were embanked.

In 1859, the upper embankment (Limanski embankment) was built.

However, floods were still a big problem for the inhabitants of Novi Sad, so already in 1873, the Novi Sad atar was flooded.

The biggest and most fatal flood in Novi Sad's past in the 19th century was the one from March 12 to April 18, 1876. On the occasion of that flood, the City Magistrate sat several times and made important decisions.
Embankments were hurriedly repaired and new ones were built, drainage canals were dug, culverts and moats were built around the city.

In order to prevent a situation where the personnel to defend the city from flooding would disappear, a decision was made to close all exits from the city and not to allow anyone to leave Novi Sad.

The costs of the flood were extremely high, just like the damage that occurred during it.

Apart from this, the floods of 1926, 1940, 1954 are still remembered, and the biggest recent flood was recorded in 1965.
That year, most of AP Vojvodina was flooded, because an effective system of ramparts did not yet exist.

It was the floods of 1965 that indicated the need to establish an effective flood defense system.

As part of the works on the rehabilitation of the Danube defense line after the flood in 1965, in the ten-year period 1965-1974, the insurance of the defense line on the section along the Danube (135.5 km in total) was completed.

Thus, the favorite Novi Sad promenade was born out of necessity.

With the realization of the project of reconstruction and elevation of the Quay in 2009, Novi Sad for the first time in its history can be sure that it is protected from floods.

The quay owes its current appearance mainly to reconstruction works, which were carried out from 2009 to 2012.
