Geocache Description:

Baker University Wetlands Research and Natural Area is a 927 acre area north of the Wakarusa River south of the City of Lawrence. It contains native wetland prairie, restored meadows, marshes, open water, shrubby secondary growth, and mature riparian woodlands. The area is designated as a National Natural Landmark and Natural and Scientific Area. The Wetlands completed (2016) a major expansion project including a Discovery Center and 7 miles of hiking and biking trails.  Hiking, bicycles, kids, and four footed kids (leash and doggy bag required) allowed. Follow the trail west and south from Parking Area #2 at the Wetlands East entrance.  Maps are available at the Discovery Center, 1365 N. 1250 Road, Lawrence, Kansas 66046. For further information, please contact Irene Unger, Baker Wetlands Director, at 785-594-4702 or at Irene.Unger@bakerU.edu. Easy find after a short walk through the Wetlands.  This Cache is new in 2022 and is located on a new wooden walkway through a wetlands marsh area.  This Cache is one of 8 active in the wetlands approved by Baker University.
