Baker University Wetlands Research and Natural Area is a 927 acre area north of the Wakarusa River south of the City of Lawrence. It contains native wetland prairie, restored meadows, marshes, open water, shrubby secondary growth, and mature riparian woodlands. The area is designated as a National Natural Landmark and Natural and Scientific Area. The Wetlands completed (2016) a major expansion project including a Discovery Center and 7 miles of hiking and biking trails. Hiking, bicycles, kids, and four footed kids (leash and doggy bag required) allowed. Follow the trail west and south from Parking Area #2 at the Wetlands East entrance.
