This bridge crosses Bertrand Creek, a watershed in Aldergrove that is home to the native species Salish Sucker and the Nooksack Dace. A watershed or drainage basin is an area of land that collects rainwater and drains it over land or via storm drains into nearby creeks, streams and rivers. Everything that runs off your property eventually washes into salmon habitats.
The creek and its riparian surroundings are inundated with invasive species (blackberries, Engish ivy & morning glory for example). These plants grow rapidly and out compete native species like the Salmon berry & Ninebark which effects our ecosystems.
Bertrand Creek Enhancement society is a group of concerned and dedicated residents who help with stream enhancement and restoration efforts including invasive species removal and in stream clean ups. For more information or to volunteer visit their website at www.Bertrandcreek.ca
To find the coordinates identify the following pictures of invasive species and those we are trying to protect with their names.
