END OF THE CREEK

In the 19th century Tambourine Creek was a navigable waterway. It separated the suburbs of Riverview and Longueville. The area was sparsely populated and it provided recreation spots for residents but was difficult to cross due to its width to access the ferry which was the only form of transport in the early days.
Following a century of development the waterway changed considerably. In 1929 the Water Board built a tunnel to provide fresh water to everyone but this along with residential development along the creek created a great deal of sediment which silted up the creek and allowing huge amounts of weed species to grow along the creek.
The creek is tidal but is no longer navigable as you can see further along the track. The council has been working for 20 years to restore native species to this beautiful creek area and create a pleasant walkway.
