On
Thursday, 26.01.2023,
at 13:30 we will meet
for at least two hours in Exo Lakonia to cut the „King Pie“.
Who will be the finder of the „Flouri“?
At the given
coordinates you will find an info-board which shows the coordinates
of the event-site, which will be nearby.
Those who stay
on Crete in January probably will know about the tradition of the
„King Pie“. If not, here is some information:
New
Year's Day is the name day of Vasillis. The name means „king“
(Βασίλης,
Βασιλέας).
Not at Christmas Day but at New Year's Day comes traditionally the
Holy King (Άι-Βασίλης)
to the families bringing presents. Everybody wishes everybody like
everywhere on the world a „Happy New Year“ and within the
families they cut the „King Pie“, the „Vasilopita“
(Βασιλόπιτα).
Within the pie is hidden a gold coin, the Flouri (Φλουρί).
The one who find this within his piece of cake will not only have
specially good luck in the New Year, but often he gets an additional
special gift.
Many
private or public institutions, such as societies, clubs, workplaces,
companies, etc., celebrate the cut of their vasilopita at a
convenient time between New Year's Day and the beginning of the Great
Lent. For the Cretan Geocaching Community it will happen at this
Event at 23rd
of January!

Am Donnerstag, den
26.01.2023 um
13:30 Uhr treffen wir uns für mindestens zwei Stunden in Exo
Lakonia, um den Neujahrskuchen aufzuschneiden und zu verteilen. Wer
wird wohl den “Flouri” finden?
An den angegebenen
Koordinaten findet Ihr eine Info-Tafel. Dort seht Ihr die Koordinaten
des Ortes, wo dann ganz in der Nähe das Event statt findet.
Diejenigen,
die im Januar auf Kreta sind, werden sicherlich wissen, was es mit
dem Neujahrskuchen auf sich hat. Falls doch nicht, dann sind hier ein
paar Erläuterungen zu diesem Brauch:
Der
Neujahrstag ist in Griechenland der Namenstag des Vassilis. Der Name
bedeutet „König“ (Βασίλης,
Βασιλέας).
Nicht zu Weihnachten sondern am Neujahrstag bringt traditionell der
Heilige König (Άι-Βασίλης)
die Geschenke. Wie überall wünscht man sich ein glückliches
Neues Jahr und dann wird im Kreise der Familie die „Königstorte“,
die „Vasilopita“ (Βασιλόπιτα),
angeschnitten. In diesem Kuchen ist der Flouri (Φλουρί),
eine Goldmünze eingebacken und
derjenige, der sie in seinem Kuchenstück findet, kann nicht nur
besonderes Glück im kommenden Jahr erwarten. Häufig wartet
auf den Gewinner zusätzlich ein besonderes Geschenk.
Viele
private oder öffentliche Einrichtungen, Vereine oder
Belegschaften zelebrieren das Anschneiden ihrer eigenen Vasilopita zu
einem passenden Zeitpunkt zwischen dem Neujahrstag und dem Beginn der
Fastenzeit. Für die Geocaching-Gemeinde Kretas ist es am 23.
Januar soweit!
