mr_johna: I came past here to check after the recent comment. As noted, there are currently roadworks at the nearby intersection for approximately another month or two and this area is part of the construction zone. This has seemingly resulted in the removal of the sign which the clue is based on. I don't know whether they'll reinstate that or not. Temporary fencing is blocking access to the area where the 3-digit plaque on the back of the railing is. Outside of school hours you should hopefully still be able to find the 3-digit plaque 2 posts down from the gate, accessing via the oval but you may have difficulty reading it unless you have a mirror as it is on the back of the post, well obscured by the railing - many people have not been able to find it which is why I changed from the number to the sign.

Unfortunately due to an injury which has hindered my ability to get around on anything but even ground for another 6 weeks or so to verify the plan.

So as I'm not able to personally verify the 3-digit plaque is still in place for another 6 weeks or so, I'm going to disable the cache until then - and hopefully the roadworks will be finished too.

The cache is still in place.

Montrose Reverse Wherigo

THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE LISTED CO-ORDINATES.  YOU WILL NEED TO USE THE WHERIGO APPLICATION TO DETERMINE THE FINAL CO-ORDINATES AND THE LOCATION OF THE CACHE CONTAINER TO SIGN THE LOG.

This a reverse wherigo with a twist:

  • Step 1 - Load a Wherigo ROM player on your smartphone (or a GPS that has one).
  • Step 2 - Load the Waldmeister Reverse Wherigo ROM into your Whereigo player
  • Step 3 - Obtain the numbers required and enter these into the Reverse Cache box
  • Step 4 - Take a distance measurement and move somewhere else (you may be further or closer) to take another distance measurement.
  • Step 5 - Eventually you will get the location of the cache revealed if you are less than 25m away from it.
  • Step 6 - Find the cache.

This WhereIGo uses the "The Reverse Cache - beta" ROM by -Waldmeister-.  Acknowledgements to -Waldmeister- for producting this ROM.

Getting the Numbers

At the posted co-ordinates there is a sign clearly visible.

  • P = number of times the letter N appears in the 1st line
  • Q = number of times the letter N appears in the 2nd line
  • R = number of times the letter O and P appear in the 3rd line

For confirmation, along the railing you will also find a three-digit number written on a plate under/behind the guard rail.

Make a new number out of these as:

  • X = 1+P
  • Y = Q-3
  • Z = R+7

The numbers to enter into the reverse cache box are:

  • #1: 014281
  • #2: 685221
  • #3: 482XYZ

Go Find It

Using the App, take a measurement and you will work out if you are getting "hotter" or "colder".

Each time you move to a new location, it will tell you how close you are (not the distance).
