Geocache Description:

16 February 2023, 12:30 - 14:00

On this day 100 years ago Howard Carter discovered Tutankhamun's sarcophagus  - the greatest cache find the world has ever known!
All are invited to this geocaching event to talk about our greatest cache find. Meet outside the British Museum, Thursday lunchtime, 16th February 2023. We had planned to meet inside at the Great Court. The Tutankhamun Curse strikes again, the British Museum has a restricted admission due to strike action. We now meet outside the museum on Montague Place.  Feel free to exchange Trackables and treasure at this milestone event.

Four months ago we celebrated the milestone of Howard Carter discovering the tomb of Tutankhamun. He entered the antechamber then began a meticulous task of recording, preserving and removing thousands of artefacts that was discovered. On completion he then explored the next chamber which was sealed behind a plastered door. The door was breached revealing that it was the burial chamber, there he discovered the enormous gold tabernacle. Inside the tabernacle were three other ornate casings. On opening them revealed the great sarcophagus of King Tutankhamun.
It would be another year before the lid of the sarcophagus was opened...return again to the British Museum for that milestone event - if we haven't been cursed by then!
