Geocache Description:

Dajti (Albanian: Mali i Dajtit) standing at 1,613 m (5,292 ft) above sea level, is a mountain and national park on the edge of Tirana, Albania. [Wikipedia]

Unfortunately it is difficult to reach the top of the Mt. Dajti for there are TV and Radio transmitters and it is closed area. Therefore the other peak Mt. Tujanit is the better alternative.

HOW CAN I REACH THE SUMMIT?

You can reach the summit by hiking up from the "Dajti balcony" the plain area around the cable car station. You can also hike all the way up from Tirana (Linzë) but that would take you very long. It is doable but I would recommend going up and down with the cable car and hike from the station to the summit.

HOW LONG IS THE HIKE?

The hike from the upper cable car station to the peak takes you approximately 1.5 hours (so 3 hours  in total). It is only about 3 km away from the station but the trail is very steep so it is pretty exhausting. For a more detail look on the hike visit Wikiloc.

I also added some waypoints for better orientation. In general the way is very well marked so you can’t miss it.

HOW DO I GET TO THE CABLE CAR?

To get to Dajti Ekspress you simply take the bus L.11 from Skanderbeg square. The bus station is behind the opera house. The sign on the bus usually says Linzë or Porcelani. To make sure you can always ask the bus driver and because Albanian people are super friendly they will even help you and tell where to get off the bus.

The bus ticket costs 40 Lek and is to be paid inside the bus to the ticket man.

HOW MUCH DOES THE CABLE CAR COST?

A two way ticket for Dajti Express costs 1.200 Lek (or 10 €) per person. The cable car operates 6 days of the week from 9:00 to 18:30. Tuesday is the day off. For more details visit Dajti Ekspres.

WHERE IS THE CACHE?

The cache is an empty pickle jar with some paper in it. It is hidden near the top. When you first get an amazing view over the beautiful city of Tirana the jar is hidden between some rocks (see spoiler picture).

But don’t stop your hike here. It is definitely worth it to walk the last few meters to the summit because there you have an even more amazing view over the mountains on the eastern side.

Please bring your own pen because there is none in the cache!

If you like you can add your country in the lock so I can see where you’re from.

About the owner: My name is Nikolaus.Nb. I’m from Germany doing a volunteering year here in Albania. If you need any help with anything feel free to contact me at any time: +355 6545 447.

Note: I will leave the country in August 2023. So after that I cannot take care of the cache anymore. It would be great if visitors could drop a new logbook from time to time. Otherwise I will have to delete the cache. Thank you.
