Croeso or Welcome to Caerwent.
Caerwent was founded by the Romans in about AD 75 and was a busy bustling town complete with shops, houses, baths, temples and an impressive civic hall and market place - the forum-basilica. The town probably started to decline in the later 4th century. Today the town walls, forum-basilica, temple, shops and houses at Pound Lane are cared for by Cadw. The well preserved and impressive walls of Caerwent Roman Town have a circult of just over a mile (1.6km). Well worth a walk around. The south wall still stands at 17 feet, but was originally twice that height.
There is a free cadw car park at N51 36.701 W002 46.266. However, if closed there is plenty of free parking around the village. There are public toilets at the cadw car parking and at N51 36.665 W002 46.050.
This adventure lab does take you to some of the same stages of the nearby excellent multi cache so if you haven't already completed it I would highly recommend it. If you have already completed it I hope you enjoy coming back to some of the most impressive parts of Caerwent.
