Geocache Description:

For this cache, you are looking for a small bison container. Bring a pen.

The prime objective of a pine cone is to protect and keep the seeds of conifers safe. Pine cones close their scales to protect the seeds from cold weather, high wind and animals, who might eat them. They open up and release the seeds when it is warm and hospitable outside. Soon enough a new pine tree sapling then sprouts up!

An Olana fun fact: While the Churches usually spent winters away from Olana, Frederic Church decided to stay home for the winter of 1890-91 to use his new Studio in the main house. Isabel Church spent this winter in Washington, DC. “My house has an even, agreeable climate which I can regulate to suit my needs and if I can get my fingers untwisted I may play painter in my new Studio – which has a most admirable light, indeed it is so perfect that it only lacks one thing – a Painter – I should like to paint an ideal scene – The place I would like to winter in – If I had my old facility with the brush I should suggest your writing a chapter or two – subject ‘An Ideal Winter Home’, illustrated by Church.” – FEC to Charles Dudley Warner, 4 Dec 1890.
