Geocache Description:

For this cache, you are looking for a small bison container. Bring a pen.

Polar bears are bright white, seal snacking, arctic explorers. These big bears are expert swimmers and snow strutters and look particularly shaggy and snuggly. They look adorable from a distance but are actually predators and not as cuddly as they appear. You will not encounter a Polar Bear at Olana.

On the other hand, Black Bears can be found on almost all of the mountain ranges in the Catskill Mountains. The Catskill Mountains have the highest density population of Black Bears in New York State. Hopefully, you will not encounter a Black Bear at Olana either.

Olana fun fact: The first painting completed by Frederic Church in the new Studio Wing of the main house was The Iceberg (1891, Carnegie Museum of Art). “I inaugurated the new Studio – it is perfect. Filled with enthusiasm I attacked my first canvas and an Iceberg scene is the result, the best I think I ever painted and the truest…” -FEC to Erastus Dow Palmer, 29 Apr 1891.
