Bimini is the westernmost district of the Bahamas and comprises a chain of islands located about 50 miles (80 kilometers) due east of Miami. Bimini is the closest point in the Bahamas to the mainland United States and approximately 210 km west-northwest of Nassau. The population is 1,988 as of the 2010 census. (Per a website search).
Cruise ship visitors can double, even triple, their population in a day. The port is on North Bimini with beautiful beaches and interesting sights between the two towns of Bailey Town and Alice Town. South Bimini can be seen from Alice Town and a quick water-shuttle ride of less than 5 minutes can be taken from Ferry Dock North Bimini to Buccaneer, South Bimini for about $3 per person, per ride.
This cache is hidden on South Bimini in Buccaneer Town at a very interesting sight on the island. A place also visited by Ponce de Leon to keep himself young.
The cache is a small-sized container with tiny swag inside. Please remember, if you take swag, leave swag of equal or greater value to keep it fun for the geocachers searching for it after you. Please do not leave trash in the cache.
The cache is in a small park on the side of a local road, with very little around it, very little stealth is needed, but to walk from the ferry to the park is a couple of miles. Golf carts can be rented at one of the general stores about a quarter of a mile from the ferry, but they aren't required. However, if you have time, a few dollars (cash only), and some time, it's worth the trip to this cache and the other cache on the other side of South Bimini.
Cache is a small black film canister and is supposed to be maintained by Jeff, a local from North Bimini island. However, if there are problems with the cache, please let me know (or if you have supplies, you are welcome to help). It will be fun to bring more people to the area and to keep the fun going.
Please replace exactly as found to keep it safe and hidden from muggles. Bring your own pen to sign the log. And make sure to send the bucket down for a sip of some youthful waters.
