Geocache Description:

Welcome to Cache Across Maryland 2023. This year is the 20th anniversary of CAM. We have made this year a little special with a CAM cache in every county, plus Baltimore City.

This is one of the caches placed for Cache Across Maryland 2023. You must find a minimum of ten caches prior to the picnic held on Saturday, June 3, 2023 in order to receive a free Maryland Geocaching Society CAM geocoin.

Make note of the code word found inside each cache container. You must enter all the symbols into an online decoder in order to print your CAM certificate as well as print a claim form to submit and receive your geocoin at the picnic. More info on CAM is available here.

There are
FIVE MANDATORY COUNTIES. THOSE WILL BE GARRETT, ST MARY'S, CECIL, WORCESTER AND ANNE ARUNDEL. You can choose any of the other five counties to find a minimum of ten CAM caches.

Wharves of Choptank Visitor and Heritage Center

Completed in June 2017, the Wharves of Choptank Visitor and Heritage Center has been 15 year’s in the making. The visitor center, located in Crouse Park, welcomes travelers to Caroline County and should be your first stop to discovering what Caroline County has to offer. The visitor center offers a great place for travelers to stop, stretch their legs, find information on Caroline County and its towns, and take in the views of the Choptank River. They offer free parking, bus parking, and clean restroom facilities. Boat ramp and nature trail also available.

The Wharves at Choptank Crossing represent some of the earliest transportation systems and facilities of the fledgling United States, including a port and wharves for sail craft, an 18th century ferry crossing and the Eastern Shore's first moveable bridge structure constructed across the Choptank in 1811.

With its location on the great Choptank River, the Wharves at Choptank Crossing will also link with and provide access to some of the Bay region's most unique places.  This in turn, emphasizes the importance of the Bay’s tributaries.  The combined natural, cultural and historic resources along the Choptank represent the slow, 300-year evolution typical of the Eastern Shore's agrarian economy.  Throughout time, the Choptank and other Bay rivers served as the primary means of commerce, transportation and access to the towns, villages and people that occupy this special place called “the Eastern Shore”.

Now, the 80 miles of the Choptank & Tuckahoe River Trail links the Wharves to historical, environmental and recreational resources throughout the region including ancient port towns, fisheries and villages, as well as outstanding recreational boating. Three ramp/launch sites will be available to the public at the Wharves location serving both paddlers and trailered motorized craft. In addition, the site falls along the path of the Designated Underground Railroad State Scenic Byway Route.

The Wharves at Choptank Crossing is located within one mile of a major state  roadway (Maryland Route 404) carrying over four million vehicles annually, most of which are tourism-generated trips. It is also strategically located in the center of the Mid-Shore Region providing both land and water access to the site.

The cache you seek is a medium size lock-n-lock. Please replace as found or better.
