Hama-rikyu Gardens was the family garden of Tokugawa Shogun which functioned as an outer fort for Edo castle. After the Meiji Restoration, the garden became a Detached Palace of the Imperial Family. In 1945, the garden was donated to the City of Tokyo, and it opened to public in 1946.

浜離宮恩賜庭園は、江戸時代には江戸城の出城の機能を果たした徳川将軍家の庭園でした。明治維新後は皇室の離宮となりました。昭和20年（1945年）に東京都に下賜され、昭和21年（1946年）から一般に公開されました。
