Happy Prohibition day! Also Happy Bootleggers day! In the 1920s the government wanted to protect Americans from the 'scourge of drunkenness' and thus the birth of prohibition.
Welcome in the Bootleggers! the term started as people hid flasks in their boots.
The desired goal was to make the country happy and more productive. Instead the country saw taverns, restaurants and companies close. Organized crime peaked, homemade stills popped up everywhere and ordinary people turned into criminals overnight. Even worse, Prohibition led to the lack of revenue and taxes from the sale of alcohol which helped drive the country into the Great Depression. Almost a decade of Prohibition ushered in the Great Depression. But after Prohibition ended it only took a few short years for the economy to improve, driven by sales of alcohol.
Bootleggers, rumrunners and moonshiners were criminals in Prohibition, are now looked at fondly as heroes/ legends, with tv shows, bars/restaurants and even a trail at a local park named after them.
Lets all raise a glass to celebrate this failed experiment.
The world is facing the most challenging era of our lives. We are all working to get through this unique time in our history. But it is time to return to some of the normal routine.
Anyone is welcome to attend! Events are a great way to meet fellow geocachers, learn about geocaching, and get involved in the geocaching community.
Event Caches last at least 30 minutes and are open to anyone. We will post the event for 1 hour, We will probably be there early and stay a bit later if things go as usual. (Bragging rights to whoever gets there first.)
Plan to share stories and photos of any caches you may have found lately. Found a new favorite? Gone on any trips? Anything planned for the future? Need a hint of a pesky puzzle?
