Geocache Description:

With this cache we are inviting you to the little town of Hort, situated in Heves county. The main sight of this charming little town is the church whose history goes way back.

The original church was bombed on November 17, 1944 by the retreating German troups. The tower, the roof, the walls, and all the church assemblies were destroyed. People thought it a miracle that the wooden cross carved by monks survived and can still be found in the church today.

From that time on, a long period of re-building starts, as nothing could be saved from the old building. Therefore, a totally new building was built and this new church can be still seen (and is still used) today near the centre of the town.

We hope that you take a little walk around this friendly town – we think it is worth a visit.
