Here at Buskett Woodlands is one of the spots in Malta where you can find the Mediterranean painted frog (Discoglossus pictus).
We've geocached all over the island, and have been lucky enough to encounter frogs and tadpoles in some interesting spots during the mild and damper winter months:
GC95YWN ('The tale of the lost treasure # 6', sadly now archived): frog spotted in a valley between Naxxar and Burmarrad.
GC85Y0J ('Salina Catacombs'): we found three little frogs here – dark, damp catacombs are the perfect spot!
GC21ZK1 ('Chadwick Lakes') and GC546AE ('CHADWICK'): you can often see frogs happily swimming all along the Chadwick lakes.
GC46D3Y ('Ghajn Tal-Hasselin'): tadpoles and frogs spotted in the tunnel where the natural spring emerges at Għajn tal-Ħasselin, near Dingli.
GCAFM7K ('Tal-Wej Area') and GCAHM6J ('BebbuXarolla', one of our geocaches) is where we found tadpoles.
This geocache 'Agħtini bewsa!' (English: 'Give me a kiss!') was inspired by the story of a frog who turned into a prince once kissed. Will you find (and kiss) a frog in Malta whilst geocaching? Keep looking – there are plenty of frogs in the ponds!
