Geocache Description:

The Claypits, Glasgow’s only inner-city nature reserve, is a magnificent parkland with breath taking views, unrivalled access to nature, and a place to unwind, located within a stone’s throw from the city centre.

The area where clay was extracted to line the Forth & Clyde Canal over 200 years ago has been transformed into an Inner-City Local Nature Reserve where a diverse range of fauna and flora can be found. Roe deer and a range of bird species, including peregrine falcons, whitethroat warblers, and a variety of waterfowl, including the elusive water rail, now call The Claypits home.

Located along the historic Forth & Clyde Canal in North Glasgow, The Claypits connect to significant Scottish sites including Loch Lomond and The Kelpies through the canal’s towpath, which is part of the National Cycling and Walking Network. The nature reserve connects canal-side communities in North Glasgow through a variety of stunning on the water boardwalks, pathways and even a little and large slide.
