AbelAlejandro: I want to put a new cache nearby, so this one is going away for good. It had a great run and it was special because it was my first hide.

Geocache Description:

[FR]

Jean Dassier, born on August 17 or October 17, 1676 in Geneva and died in the same city on November 12, 1763, was a Genevan medalist.

Originally from Lyon, the Dassier family took refuge in Geneva during the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre. Jean Dassier was the son of Domaine Dassier (1640-1719), appointed engraver of the Republic of Geneva's Mint, and Sara Le Grand. The couple had six children, including Paul (1681-1768), also a medalist.

In 1703, Jean Dassier married Anne Prévost-Gaudy, with whom he had two sons who were also medalists, Jacques-Antoine (1715-1759), and Antoine (1718-1780), who engraved very little. Antoine was the father of Pierre Dassier, a general in the service of France and the ancestor of Gustave Ador, President of Switzerland in 1919-1920.

The Dassiers were the only medalists of their century mentioned in the Encyclopedia of Diderot and d'Alembert.
