Flow of the Haw Traditional Cache
NCreviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.
Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Great Hike along the haw. Somewhat long but very enjoyable. There are two ways to get there by land and one by water!
Get out your hiking boots, or your kayak/canoe! On this excellent river hike you will encounter all sorts of wildlife such as Deer, Wild Turkeys, Owls, Snakes, Herons, Turtles, Hawks, Vultures, and much more. You just need to keep your eyes and ears open! Bring some water and snacks with you. Or better yet pack a lunch and have a picnic at the coordinates.
The best hike is from Hwy 64, about 2.5 miles through some great river scenes. Starting point should be on recreation area on the EASTbound side of 64, on the EAST side of the river. From there hike upstream following the trail. GPS coverage will be sparse as the tree cover is pretty dense. During parts of this hike you will be travelling on the Old Bynum Plank road. DO NOT pay ANY attention to current road maps of the area as those still show the plank road as a real road, which it is certaintly not!
This cache contains a camera, take a picture of yourself at the coordinates with the river as the background. I will then develop the pictures on post them. Besides the camera the items in the cache are not all the interesting as this hunt is all about the location and hike not the goodies in the cache. However make sure to leave a comment in the guestbook.
Actual Cache is an ammo box, however it is not located at the actual coordinates, as the Haw frequently overflows it's banks. Look for a natural formation across the path. More hints in the encrypted section, including actual coordinates.
You can also reach this cache from Bynum by hiking downstream on the east side of the river, this hike should be around 1 mile, and will entail crossing a stream. However this hike is definately not as exciting as coming up from HWY 64.
You should also be able to reach this cache by Canoe or Kayak from the Haw.
IMPORTANT
---------
PLEASE only travel to this cache via the routes listed. This cache is very close to some private property and I may need to pull this cache out if I do get any complaints. Apparently there has been one incident of someone trespassing (unknowingly) into someones private property and an argument ensued. PLEASE, PLEASE stick to the river routes or I may be forced to pull this cache out.
Thanks!
