Geocache Description:

Mt. Barrow is a dolerite capped plateau with widespread block fields. It reaches a maximum altitude of 1406m making it the second highest peak in eastern Tasmania.

Mount Barrow is the main TV and FM radio transmission site for northeast Tasmania. The broadcasting and telecommunication structures are subject to ice build-up and have shields incorporated into their designs to prevent damage from falling ice. Due to the rugged terrain the programme reaches the sites via microwaves links instead of the usual fibreoptic cables. Electrical power reaches the facilities by an overhead line running up the eastern side of the mountain.

The one way road to the summit is totally unpaved, pretty narrow and defiant.  The first 10km of the route has a well-maintained gravel surface and runs through a combination of undulating farmland and forestry areas. The boundary of Mount Barrow State Reserve is reached at the 10km mark, where parking and picnic areas are provided. The road beyond the parking area comprises a tortuous, steep collection of switchbacks - rivalling nearby Jacobs Ladder - but also provides spectacular views of the valleys to the north and west. The road to the summit is very steep, hitting a 16% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps.

The cache is located near the boom gate at the summit  and is the recommended parking spot on quiet days. When looking at GZ from here  you will see a small boulder field with the cache on the RHS. Walk through the scrub to the boulder field climb towards the GZ but keep it on your RHS until you are near it. Once you are within a meter or two it will most likely be at head height. It is tucked away between to rocks but it is not hidden as the cache wants to take in the beautiful views when not cloudy.

Hoping you all have a devil of a good time up here.
