The Federation Council is a local government area located in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. This area was formed in 2016 from the merger of the Corowa Shire with its neighbouring Urana Shire. These caches are some random additions to encourage more visitors to this part of the world.
This was a surprising addition to the main street of Urana (opposite the spider on the water tank). A reconstruction (I think) of the Dexter Horizontal Windmill that was originally located on "Coonong" Station to the north of Urana. The original was installed some time in the later 1860s and has an unusual design of the blades rotaing on a horizontal axis as opposed to the normal vertical. When listed by the National Trust in 1985 it was only one of two remaining in the western world - the other being in New York State in the US.
I can't find out the final status of the one at Coonong - lots of stories about the reconstruction in January 2022 and these hint the original was burnt, so I am assuming this imitatres the original design.
A public place so stealth will be required - plenty of parking but be careful with kids and pets here.
