Ο ΣΤΑΥΡΟΣ
Τα Θεοφάνεια είναι μεγάλη ετήσια χριστιανική εορτή της Βάπτισης του Ιησού Χριστού στον Ιορδάνη ποταμό από τον Άγιο Ιωάννη τον Βαπτιστή[1]. Εορτάζεται στις 6 Ιανουαρίου και είναι η τρίτη και τελευταία εορτή του Δωδεκαημέρου (εορτών των Χριστουγέννων). Το όνομα προκύπτει από τη φανέρωση των τριών προσώπων της Αγίας Τριάδας που συνέβη σύμφωνα με τρεις σχετικές ευαγγελικές περικοπές. Η γιορτή των Θεοφανίων λέγεται επίσης και Επιφάνια, Φώτα ή Φωτά ή Εορτή των Φώτων. Σε αυτή την εορτή γιορτάζουν: Φώτιος (Φώτης), Φωτεινή, Ιορδάνης, Θεοφάνης, Θεοφανία (Φανή), Περιστέρης, Ουρανία, Φαίδων κ.α
Στο σημείο αυτό οι ιερείς πετάνε τον Σταυρό στην λίμνη στις 6/1 κάθε χρόνου για να ευλογήσουν τα νερά και στο ίδιο σημείο βουτάνε οι πιστοί για να πιάσουν τον σταυρό. Αντιλαμβάνεστε την προθυμία τους, ειδικά τις χρονιές που η λίμνη έχει παγώσει...

THE CROSS
Epiphany is a major annual Christian celebration of the Baptism of Jesus Christ in the Jordan River by Saint John the Baptist. It is celebrated on January 6 and is the third and last feast of the Twelve Days (Christmas celebrations). The name is derived from the manifestation of the three persons of the Holy Trinity that occurred according to three relevant Gospel passages. The feast of Epiphany is also called Epiphany, Fotas or Fotas or the Feast of Lights. On this feast they celebrate (i.e.namedays): Photios (Fotis), Fotini, Jordan, Theophanes, Theophany (Fani), Pigeon, Urania, Phaedo, etc.
It is at this point that the orthodox priests throw the Holy Cross in the lake on 6/1 every year to bless the waters and consequently this is also where the swimmers jump in the lake to catch the Cross so they can earn the blessing for the year ahead. You can immagine their wilingness in the years in which the lake is frozen by this time...
