One of the play features of Linklater Reserve is a Cessna 421C, first registered in USA 1999 and named "Golden Eagle".
In 2004 it was purchased by a NZ company.
In 2015 the plane was acquired by the Taranaki Air Ambulance Trust and its registration changed to ZK-TAM2.
24 May 2019 TAM2 crash-landed at Hamilton airport when the nose wheel landing gear malfunctioned. Pilot Eloise Campbell landed the plane safely, although spectacularly.
The Cessna was then transported to a Palmerston North aircraft maintenance company to be stripped of the reusable mechanical and electronic parts. The remaining body was secured by PNCC to become a play feature, and was airlifted into place by a NZ Army helicopter.
It goes without saying that "Golden Eagle" is a popular piece of play equipment and you'll have to be SUPER STEALTHY finding the geocache which is a bison located on the outside of the aircraft.
Don't bother trying to find it while kids are playing.
