Picky's First Smashy CITO!

Late afternoon event - ending before dusk.  Hopefully folks can swing by after school or on their way home.

This is our first real CITO here - have finally gotten official approval to have these events, and for this date specifically. Yay!

Most of the garbage is in the grass surrounding the parking lot, and some has been blown into the edge of the woods.  Cleaning up in the parking lot is also welcome.  The parking lot itself is wheelchair-/crutches-/walker-friendly.  If you plan to go into the grass, especially into the edge of the woods, spray up - there will likely be bugs.

BYOGrabbers - and work gloves, if you want to use those.

CO will bring garbage bags and some non-latex disposable gloves to help with collections, as well as bottled water and some snacks.  We have been asked to leave the trash in the street(!) near the red dot in the picture.  Up against the curb, presumably.  They plan to pick up the trash the next day (hopefully in the morning).

BYOWarmDrinksHandWarmers as you like/if needed.

Bonus points if you bring your dry, clean, empty GLASS recyclables to throw into the purple bins here.  Hence our *smashy* fun!

Kids, SOs, friends, family, visitors, travelers, new cachers, and caching-curious muggle buddies are all welcome. Don't know us yet? You will soon enough ;)

Event will STILL HAPPEN if there's a little snow on the ground or a little coming down - it's just an hour - though not if there's a big storm or if the roads/parking area are impassable or if the grass is thickly covered.  Watch this site for updates.  Given it's the first day of spring, we're hoping for good weather :)

Make that immediate left as you come into the lot from the light so you don't have to turn around.  Wheelchair accessible.  Distancing is easy here.

Guests and mini-cachers welcome, but watch feet especially in the glassy area near each purple bin.  There are shards on the ground there from folks who missed.

Outdoors; no cover, so dress for any weather.  There is a port-a-potty onsite.  There is a bus stop right in the parking lot (buses 553 and 557 - see Fairfax Connector/553 and 557 schedule)

The shopping center across the road has various food options and a gas station should you need to refuel.  There are several caches within a short walk, including my Thanksgiving puzzle from a previous year (Doggo Walking:  Leftovers).

Please follow any pandemic safety protocols, such as not coming if you have been exposed to/have had COVID within the past couple of weeks or if you are sick in general.

Additional info on the county's glass recycling is here.
