Geocache Description:

What in the world is this building? This building houses the valving and controls for the pond behind it. The pond is called the Clawson Surge Pond. It serves the Hunter Power plant, located a few miles northeast of here. This pond contains water coming from Millsite Reservoir, located a few miles southwest of here.

The elevation difference between Millsite Reservoir (6100 feet above sea level) and Hunter plant (5600 feet above sea level) is approximately 500 feet. At 0.433 psi per foot of water, that would make the pressure on the pipes approximately 215 pounds per square inch if the water flowed from Millsite to the Hunter Plant in a straight shot. That’s too much pressure for the pipes to safely handle.

The water flowing into the Clawson Surge Pond comes in at approximately 65 psi due to the elevation difference between Millsite Reservoir and the Clawson Surge Pond. The Clawson Surge Pond (5950 feet above sea level) allows the water to come into the pond and lose the pressure gained flowing from Millsite to the pond. It then flows into piping that takes it the rest of the way to Hunter Plant.

The elevation difference between the Clawson Surge Pond and Hunter Plant is approximately 350 feet, resulting in a pressure of approximately 150 psi. Still a lot of pressure, but a manageable number.

You should be able to find the cache quite easily. There is no room for tradables. Bring your own pen.
