Anyone who knows me, knows I have a dog named Chesney. And cachers who don’t know me might even know I have a dog named Chesney, if they have done my puzzle based on Chesney’s many breeds. This cache is a multi for Chesney and takes you on a nice walk around the Crystal Lake fields – Chesney’s favorite park in Corvallis. The entire cache route is about 1.25 miles and you will be on pavement, field, and trail.
Do not go to the posted coords, go to the parking coords and then proceed to the posted coords for your first stop. Note: the parking coords are the closest to the fields’ main entrance, during sports’ seasons you may need to park in one of the nearby parking fields (that are closed during the winter).
Apologies for the simple, but obnoxious math to get you from one point to the next. Oops, I meant necessary math! Apologies to math lovers everywhere!
Parking: N 44*33.053 W 123*15.138
Posted/WP1: N 44*32.918 W 123*15.042
At the posted coords (WP1), what color is the board on the backstop?
Assign each letter in that color a number (A=1, B=2, C=3, etc.) and then add the numbers for each letter together for a sum of ___. Multiply the sum x 2 = ___. Take that number ___ and subtract it from the seconds of the N coords of WP1 (918 - ___ = ___. Then add 56 to that number for ABC. For the W seconds of WP2, remember the color that was the answer and the numbers that were assigned to each letter? Now add every number you have individually (example: if the color was white you have the numbers 23 8 9 20 5 – do not total them, add them individually like a checksum: 2 + 3 + 8 + 9 + 2 + 0 + 5 = 29). Take the number you get when you add the number of the answer's color and add it to the W seconds of WP1 (042). Subtract 2 and you have DEF.
WP2: N44*32.ABC W 123* 15.DEF
At WP2, how many "bumpies" of the metal T-Post are visible between the brackets that hold the object to the metal post? (Look on the back.)
Subtract 1 from your answer for the G and add 1 to your answer for the K in WP3. For HIJ, multiply your answer by 54 and then subtract that number from WP2 N seconds. For LMN, multiply your answer by 321.
WP3: N44*3G.HIJ W 123* 1K.LMN
Find the CMC code and add the numbers for a sum of ___.
Remember those T-post "bumpies"? What was your answer? Multiply it by 2 and then add to the sum here. Now subtract that number from the WP3 N seconds for OPQ. The last number of the CMC code = R. For STU, multiply the eighth number of the code by itself. Take that number and multiply it by 2 and subtract the answer from WP3 W seconds (HIJ).
Final: N 44*32.OPQ W 123*1R.STU
