IMPORTANT: This geocache is accessible only from Showalter Park. I have added a waypoint that has the entrance to this park. There is parking along each baseball field, including spaces very close to the cache. The cache is NOT near nor across the railroad tracks. Do not go near the tracks, and do not attempt to get to this cache without entering the park.
This geocache is placed in honor of Buck Showalter, 2014 AL Manager of the Year in Major League Baseball. My wife and I recently moved to Okaloosa County from the Baltimore area and we think it's cool that Buck has a baseball park named for his family, so we placed a custom cache here. Buck was born in DeFuniak Springs and raised in Century and his father was a teacher and prinicipal at Century High School, where Buck graduated in the 1970s. Buck is now the manager for the New York Mets and has also managed the New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Texas Rangers. However, my wife and I know him best for managing the 2014 Baltimore Orioles, who won their division and made it to the American League Championship Series.
