幕末、京都の庶民教育機関であった教諭所は、もと、皆川淇園門下の北小路寵（竹窓）が計画し、天保４年許可されて「室町竹屋町上る」の町家に開校したが、数年後衰退、中絶を余儀なくされ、その後何度かの移転の後、東洞院三条西北角のこの地を買いとり、再建された。維新後、明治２年２月、下京四番組中の小学校となり、教諭所は消滅した。

 

その跡地にキャッシュを設置いたしました。
