On 1 January 1950, the first Sunday service was held at the Evangelical Lutheran missionary office in Granville Road, Tsim Sha Tsim by several missionaries who had moved to Hong Kong from China and the Mandarin church was established. With the expanding congregation, the space could no longer accommodate them. Therefore in the following year, the Union Church in Jordan was used to hold their Sunday afternoon service. In 1954, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong was officially established. In 1963, this church moved to its current location at 50 Waterloo Road and was renamed the Truth Lutheran Church.
