2023 Calgary Spring Fling Kickoff Event Event Cache

Welcome to the 2023 Calgary Spring Fling Kickoff Event! The Event is a quick get together to plan strategies for the two plus week long family friendly event. The 2023 Spring Fling Event isn't about competition or prizes - it's about encouraging cachers to hide a few caches or a bunch and enjoy a day on the caching trail with friends.

1. When: Thursday, March 16th, 2023 - 6:00 p.m. through 6:30 p.m. at the Confederation Park Monument.

2. The 2023 Calgary Spring Fling Kickoff Event will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will last until 6:30 p.m.

3. A group photo will be taken at 6:25 p.m. at the Confederation Park Monument.

4. At 6:30 p.m. we will clean up the site and head back to our transportation. Be sure to stay with the group on the way back to parking to enjoy the caching stories from the trail!

The 2023 Spring Fling Kickoff Event will be a short get together to share stories from the trail and plans for Spring. Come on out and join us to celebrate the hopeful coming of warmer weather.

There are THREE stages to the 2023 Calgary Spring Fling Event:

(1) The Hides;

(2) The Hunt; and

(3) The Gatherings.

Phase 1: The Hides

Hide one or more caches between now and Tuesday, March 14th or perhaps at any time during the Event. The deadline is to ensure that our amazing reviewers have sufficient time to review and publish all the hides for the event. However, hiders are encouraged to place their caches for the event earlier than that to work out any issues that may arise.

NOTE: Every cache submitted for the 2023 Calgary Spring Fling Event should include the following:

1. 2023SF at the end of the title (e.g. Big Tree - 2023SF) to facilitate searches by keyword;

2. A note to the reviewer stating that it is placed for the 2023 Calgary Spring Fling Event and a request they be published the evening of Thursday, March 16th;

3. A mention at the top of the cache page that the cache is for the 2023 Calgary Spring Fling Event, with the intention that it not be sought out until after 8:00 am on Saturday, March 18th.

4. 2023 Calgary Spring Fling Event caches are published the evening before to give everyone chance to look at the cache listings, solve puzzles and devise their battle plans before the hunt begins.

Rules about hides placed for the 2023 Calgary Spring Fling Event:

All hides are totally acceptable within geocaching.com guidelines;

All hides must be hidden within 125 km of the Calgary Tower 9 Avenue and Centre Street South;

Hide caches you would enjoy finding yourself;

All hides must be made to remain permanent following the event for everyone to find at their leisure.

Phase 2: The Hunt

This cache has been placed for the 2023 Calgary Spring Fling Event with the intention that it not be located prior to 8:00 am on Saturday, March 18th, 2023. The caches for this event are released early so that the geocaching community has an opportunity to plan their routes and strategies prior to the event start. Feel free to find as many or as few caches as you can and want. During the hunt, please document the time of find in the logbook. This makes things more interesting by informing subsequent finders how close they are on your tail.

Phase 3: The Gatherings - The above coordinates are for the 2023 Calgary Spring Fling Kickoff Event!

During the two plus weeks of the 2023 Spring Fling Event we’re planning to have a gathering or two per day in various locations throughout the Event Catchment Area. Hope you can make one or more of the Events!
