Our geocache has been placed in a location where you would have boarded the Rock Island Golden State Passenger Train traveling east to Chicago or west to Las Angeles. Unfortunately the passenger trains stopped passing through Eldon, Iowa in 1968. Freight trains also ceased when the Rock Island Railroad claimed bankruptcy and closed all of its operations in 1980. The original depot is now a museum. There is a restored Rock Island engine facing east in front of the museum.
