This cache is located close to the church of Saint Nicholas in Valletta. The Church of Saint Nicholas was built as a Greek Orthodox church in 1569. In 1639 it was conceded to the Confraternity of the Souls in Purgatory, who rebuilt it in 1652 in the Baroque stile. In 2014 the church was passed on to the Greek Catholic congregation and is used both for Greek Catholic and Serbian Orthodox masses . Today, the building is a Grade 1 national monument and is listed on the National Inventory of the Cultural Property of the Maltese Islands.
The legendary figure of Santa Claus has his name from the parton saint of this church, Saint Nicholas, who was a Greek Catholic bishop in the 4th century and was known for his generosity.
