The Greensward stretches about 1.5 miles from the Golf Club in the south of Frinton, to the Leas in the north, at the boundary with Walton. At its widest, it's about 100 yards wide.
The open land was pastureland before the development of Frinton as a resort, and was grazed by cattle until the turn of the 20th century. When the works to install sea defences were begun in 1903, the Greensward was incorporated as part of the scheme to stabilise the cliffs. Since then it has remained a well protected asset for Frinton.
