Geocache Description:

This is a Bonus Cache for completing the WW2 Call Sign D7F Adventure Lab.

“This cache is on Forestry England land and has been placed in accordance with the GAGB – Forestry England Agreement. As part of this Agreement, it is not permitted to seek the cache during the hours of darkness”.

The cache is not here, although you may want to visit the co-ords to see some surviving runway from the WW2 airfield. After completing the AdLab, this bonus cache can be found at:

         N50 47.AAA W1 4B.CDE

Tip - look at the photos on the Ad Lab journal entries. The cache is hidden near some rubble that could well have come from the daily servicing huts or latrines for the crews working on the pans in this location.

For those of you that enjoyed the history of this airfield, here's some resources you may find of interest:

Google satellite map of the site on which you can clearly see the runways and the locations of most of the pans.

Youtube on discovering a Battle HQ recently, a similar one to the one at RAF Homsley South.

Youtube of an Australian instructional film from WW2 on unloading bombs at airfields.

Youtube on how to prepare a RAF plane at the start of the day and how to re-arm it, from bomb store to plane.

Youtube of a WW2 bombing mission with a Blenheim pilot and team.

Youtube of USAAF planes and groundcrew at a British airfield. The planes are marauders which were flown at RAF Holmsley South.

Much detail on RAF Holmsley South and what remains.
