Questa cache è nascosta in via Callesello, un vicolo di Marostica che fiancheggia la cinta muraria dalla parte della porta bassanina.
This cache is hidden in via Callesello, an alley in Marostica which flanks the walls on the side of the Bassanina gate.
Le mura di Marostica
Marostica è famosa, oltre che per la piazza degli scacchi, anche per la sua bella ed imponente cinta muraria.
La costruzione della cinta muraria, tutta merlata e intervallata da 24 poderose torri (anche dette torresini), iniziò il 1° marzo del 1372. Fu una costruzione imponente, che si sviluppava per un perimetro di circa 1800 metri. Era allora signore di Verona e di Vicenza Cansignorio della Scala.
Contemporaneamente furono costruite 4 porte (Breganzina, Bassanese, Vicentina e di Tramontana) ciascuna preceduta da un rivellino, rappresentato da una struttura in muratura, di solito con pianta quadrata o a rettangolo o a semicerchio, posta davanti ad una porta, dotata spesso di un proprio fossato, comunicante con la porta restrostante con un ponte levatoio. Pure l’entrata del Castello Superiore è preceduta da un rivellino.
Le mura furono dotate anche di camminamenti, detti cammini di ronda, che in epoca antica permettevano un servizio di guardia. Alla base delle mura era stato ricavato un profondo fossato, mentre all’altezza della porte erano posizionati dei ponti levatoi.
Con questo nuovo apparato di difesa, le precedenti opere difensive sul Monte Agù e il Castello sul Pauso vennero abbandonate e caddero in rovina: la vita e il potere della città si spostò al centro della difesa muraria ai piedi del castello sul Pauso e attorno alla Pieve di Santa Maria.
In epoca recente, tra il 1934 e 1935, nella parte sud delle mura, fu praticata una nuova apertura al fine di agevolare l'accesso alla ex stazione ferroviaria.
The walls of Marostica
Marostica is famous not only for the chess square, but also for its beautiful and imposing city walls.
The construction of the walls, all crenelated and interspersed with 24 mighty towers (also called "torresini"), began on 1 March 1372. It was an imposing construction, which developed for a perimeter of about 1800 meters. At the time Cansignorio della Scala was lord of Verona and Vicenza.
At the same time, 4 gates were built (Breganzina, Bassanese, Vicentina and Tramontana) each preceded by a ravelin, represented by a masonry structure, usually with a square or rectangle or semicircle plan, placed in front of a gate, often with its own moat , communicating with the rear door with a drawbridge. Even the entrance to the Upper Castle is preceded by a ravelin.
The walls were also equipped with walkways, called walkways, which in ancient times allowed a guard service. At the base of the walls there was a deep moat, while drawbridges were positioned at the height of the gates.
With this new defense system, the previous defensive works on Monte Agù and the Castle on the Pauso were abandoned and fell into ruin: the life and power of the city moved to the center of the defensive walls at the foot of the castle on the Pauso and around the Pieve of Santa Maria.
In recent times, between 1934 and 1935, a new opening was made in the southern part of the walls in order to facilitate access to the former railway station.
