This one is titled rather ironically. It is where the road sign marks the Holmpton boundary, but whether the sign is at the Holmpton boundary is an open question. Holmpton is a undisputably a Parish, but the Parish boundary is some way further South, not here. But is this the boundary to the village of Holmpton? Indeed is there such a thing? Holmpton is usually referred to as a village, this is how the locals refer to it and how it is described in Wikipedia. But that is not the end of the story. The Parish has a very small population (In the 2021 census it had a total of 221 inhabitants - including children). It is also quite widely dispersed, with no obvious centre, houses spread over several widely separated roads and others scattered about the area. It is therefore sometimes referred to as a "dispersed settlement" as opposed to a village - and if that is right, the road sign is in the wrong place. But frankly, who cares, you are welcome anyway.
The road from here, a single track road with passing palces - and the usual plentiful supply of random bends - leads to Easington, which is important to the Country's energy supply as a major gas terminal and the base for the Rough Gas Storage facility (but the gas pipe does not go to Holmpton!). As such it is a potential terrorist target and has a heavy police presence. So do not be surprised if you see more police here than you would have expected for such a remote area.
