Geocache Description:

This is a cache to bring you to Chesters Supertrees, based on the ones in Singapore. Please note it is not in its orginal location, so ignore log hints before 29/03/23. Various parking nearby including free short stay

Super stealth required! Please be mindful of people passing through and that people at the pub opposite and passing cars can see down into the garden. Make sure to put the geocache right back into it's camouflage. I suggest you take the cache out of its hiding place and sit on the bench to sign the log etc.

This cache is big enough for any trackables you want to drop in Chester that are smaller than a standard mug.

Supertrees is an exciting community based, environmental project, with a main aim to improve the bio-diversity, wildlife and air quality currently present within the City of Chester. The inspiration for the Chester Supertrees project was born when Sir David Attenborough, as part of the final episode of his Planet Earth II documentary, enthused about the success of Supertree Grove in Singapore’s revolutionary nature park and botanical garden. He talked about the ecosystems that exist within cities, in particular the Gardens by the Bay project, where the Supertrees are located. Within this regeneration, an environment has been created through metal structures that support a variety of plant life that would not usually grow within a City.

“There is very strong evidence to show that maintaining a connection to nature is good for our health”

Fredi Devas,
producer of the Cities episode of Planet Earth II

Chester's own version is much smaller in scale but still looks to achieve some of the environmental and social goals of Singapore's Supertrees. The building of steel structures, in the shape of trees that allow various climbing plants to thrive within the city, increasing the plant diversity, which in turn will increase the animal and insect diversity. The structures, will in many ways resemble a tree, constructed from a lattice work of steel that branches out at the top.

The Supertree project began with a man with one idea. Steve Hughes began raising money for what would become the Chester Supertrees. He ran 7 marathons in 7 days in 7 countries, just so people would take his idea seriously. People listened!
Then Steve approached Good For Nothing Chester (GFN) who quickly recognised the importance of this project. 27 GFN members gave their time, expertise and energy to realise Steve’s initial vision.
