It's National Umbrella Day...but we all know that rain never deters a geocacher from anything!  So lets gather and chat about some of your 'caching in the rain' stories...OR those post-rain filled creeks rising, drainage pipes filling, and soaked ground moments.

A few Fun Facts about Umbrellas... 

~ The first recorded usage of the word umbrella dates back to 1610 ("I like to imagine that the person who invented the umbrella was going to call it the brella.....but he hesitated")

~ Other names for the umbrella include sunshades, brolly, parapluie, rain shade, gamp, and Bumbershoot

~There are many uses for an umbrella beyond protection from the rain: shade from the sun, wind, snow, sleet, for privacy, for security (as weapon), and by photographers to modify light

~  The icon of an umbrella is a universal symbol of rain, usually used in weather forecasting

~ Many people believe that opening an umbrella indoors is bad luck....how about you?

~ There is an umbrella cover museum in Maine, which has the largest collection of umbrella covers in the world
