You will find Meadow Bounce near a popular trailhead west of downtown Bend. Park near the coordinates provided above. It was originally one of the Bounce contest caches placed during the month of September. Now this cache is available to everyone!
Logistics: Be especially careful on the “washboard“ road as one could end up in the ditch or crashed into an on-coming rig. Parking spaces are provided near the coordinates; there is no need to park on the road. A Trailhead Parking Fee is not required (at this time).
Meadow Bounce has been placed about 437 feet at 68 degrees true, from the coordinates (the first Meadow Trailhead bulletin board). Use your true compass (set at seventeen degrees declination) and your GPS together, to find this cache.
Steve Hayden, USFS trail crew supervisor for the Bend-Ft. Rock Ranger District, and Marv Lang, Recreation Manager, have been working to restore this scenic area for some time, applying modern management ethics to a misused area still called “Meadow Camp” in 1995. Compacted areas and outlaw user trails have been eliminated. As you seek this cache, note the most recent and creative restoration work.
The area where Meadow Bounce is cached is a rock climbing and bouldering area, popular due to its proximity to Bend. Steve and his crew have worked hard to move the main trial away from the riverbank and to give access by several trace trails to the rock cliffs. PLEASE STAY ON THE DEVELOPED TRAILS AND WAYS IN THIS AREA.
Rock climbing and bouldering are dangerous! Not long ago, one senior athlete died after he fell about 30 feet from these Meadow cliffs, and later an outdoor parks and recreation leader climbing alone, was hospitalized with broken bones from a fall from these same rocks. NO ROCK CLIMBING IS NECESSARY TO FIND MEADOW BOUNCE.
