Geocache Description:

Portland Locus Focus

The cache is not at the posted coordinates.

Please solve the puzzle below to find the actual cache location.

The majority of the solvers/finders of this puzzle cache will likely be from the Portland area, so here is a PDX-centric puzzle to enjoy (it should be no problem for non-locals as well, thanks to Google Earth).

Below is an aerial image of Portland metro.  Fourteen loci (regions/localities) are indicated by the yellow arrows and numbers.  Loci is the plural of locus, pronounced low-sai

I made an error on the downtown locus and did not want to redraw all the arrows, thus the crossed out number.

At each locus, your goal is to focus on a particular intersection of roads in that immediate area.  Clues and photos below will help identify each intersection.  Each clue includes a Street View photo at that intersection to verify you have the correct one.  Note that several of the intersections have Street View photos taken years apart and separated by just one mouse click.  It might help to click around a bit in the intersections if a match isn't obvious.

The puzzle was tested and verified by an out-of-state cacher who reported it took about three hours to solve and that the arrows are accurate.

As you answer each clue, note the number of the locus it was found in.  Those numbers, in the same order as the clues/photos, will build a set of coordinates in the Northern and Western hemispheres.  Drop to Street View at that location and answer the following question:

What does the sign say?

Click this Checker link and enter your answer.  If your hocus pocus is not bogus, you can focus on a new locus on a beautiful and easy hiking trail.  Enjoy!

Click the satellite view below to enlarge.  In Google Earth, be sure "Roads" is checked so street names are visible in satellite view.
