Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease caused by germs that are spread from person to person through the air. TB usually affects the lungs, but it can also affect other parts of the body, such as the brain, the kidneys, or the spine. A person with TB can die if they do not get treatment. It is an illness that has long existed in Malaysia and commonly affect those of lower income status due to their living conditions.
The Malaysia Association of The Prevention of Tuberculosis was founded in order to fight this very treatable disease.
Two interesting points:
1. The association was founded so long ago that the malay spelling for cough is spelt as "batok" instead of "batuk".
2. ironically, the association is located on a lane that the locals call "coffin lane" because thats where all the funeral palours are.
