The Split Apple Rock, or Toko Ngawa subdivision lies on a peninsula to the south of Marahau and Abel Tasman National Park.
One hectare sections were sold here in the nineties. You won't see many of the houses from the road, they are much more visible from the sea.
The peninsula has over the years suffered logging, fire, infestation by animals, gorse and pine trees. More recently the native forest is reclaiming the land and residents are aggressively eradicating exotic animals such as stoats, rabbits and opussums. Wilding pines and gorse are being removed and the bush is coming back.
There are tracks to two beaches on the peninsula, Kohi Walk is one of them, dropping down from Gannet Heights, the other goes from Moonraker Drive down to Split Apple Rock beach.
