Avast Ye Matie!!!
It's a little known fact that Capt Cook was pursued by Black Beard the pirate when in 1776 he sailed up the inlet that today bears his name. After turning again and again, he was left with no choice but to hide his ship's treasure somewhere near the shores of Cook inlet. Just in the Knik of time, Cook and first officer Kincaid set ashore on a mission to hide and protect the ship's treasure chest.
Afterwards Cook said to Black Beard "Na Na Na, Ye can't find it!" (or words to that effect.) But before Cook was able to retrieve his treasure, he was brought ashore "for dinner" in the sandwhich isles. Bummer! Arrrrrrgh!
Remember, they don't build GPS's today like they did in Cook's days. And the ships log indicating the exact location of the treasure chest was evidently used as napkins at the dinner at which Cook was the "honored guest" (ahem, main course). Nevertheless, I have extensively examined the ships chronometer and sextant (octant) and the memory track seems to indicate the treasure lies near the location identified above.
And the treasure chest is ... well a treasure chest indeed. Particularly if ye is a young buccaneer between the ages of 4 and 12. But be careful! Blackbeard's crew is still searching for the treasure as well! It was fortuitous that Cook used a rubbermaid container for his treasures! (at least for you and I!)
