Geocache Description:

Sankey Valley is a country park in Warrington, in the heart of the Mersey Forest. The linear park follows a section of the St Helens Canal and Sankey Brook, providing a vast habitat for wildfowl including ducks, geese and swans.

I have long enjoyed spending time in this park, both as a child playing in its various kid's areas such as the Spider's Web, Pirate Ship or maze, and as an adult walking and enjoying the greenery.

This series of caches will take you on a circular walk of about an hour starting at the entrance on Hesketh Street, walking up to the old gate-keeper's cottage at Bewsey and back along the less-frequented path across the canal (this side isn't paved so can get muddy).

This first cache can be found on the approach to a small bridge over the canal called Heron Bridge. Once you have logged the cache and are crossing the bridge, look out for the heron brickwork built into the path. The cache is a small tube and you will need tweezers and a pen.
