Geocache Description:

This is the first cache we've created and we hope it's a good one. Its general location is on the rugged shoreline of Twillingate's north island, near Long Point Lighthouse. The trail to the cache is clearly marked and fun to hike.

We suggest searching for this cache during fair weather months due to the steepness of portions of the trail. It should take no more than an hour to find the cache and return. Start from the lighthouse parking lot, which is at the very end of route 340.

Long Point Lighthouse was built of stone in 1876. The tower is 47 feet tall and contains an aero beacon-style lens, with a range of 22 nautical miles. The lighthouse was built because Twillingate was once a major exporting port for large sea vessels transporting salt fish to places like Spain and Portugal.

The cache itself is a clear plastic container with a white top, wrapped in a black plastic bag. Its contents include:

disposable camera
toy train
corkscrew
compass
various key chains
log book
and a few other goodies

Once you find the cache, be sure to sign the log book and take a picture of yourself or your group. Return the log book and the camera to the cache and ensure the lid is tightly secure before replacing it. Be aware of on lookers from above when replacing the cache.

We hope you will enjoy this cache and the surrounding area. If your lucky you may even see some icebergs or whales passing by!!!
