This little urban oasis was named as Church Walk Park in 1924 as a pedestrian corridor between the Christchurch Cathedral on the hill and City Hall.
It used to be a sand dune and an embankment for the railway that serviced the coal mines of Cooks Hill and carried them to load onto ships at the Harbour.
The park is now maintained by a community group "Friends of Church Walk Park". They have surveyed all the plants catalogued on the Planting Map.
Enjoy the greenery and the Art Deco architecture of the apartment buildings above.
