[ITA] Porta San Donato:
Porta San Donato appartiene alla terza e più recente cerchia di mura della città di Bologna, la Circla.
Costruita intorno al XIII secolo, la cerchia correva tutto intorno al perimetro della città, in corrispondenza di quelli che ora sono i Viali. Questa cinta muraria, di cui ora ci rimangono solo le porte e alcuni brevi tratti di muro, si estendeva per più di sette chilometri ed era circondata da un fossato sull'esterno.
Tra il 1902 e il 1906 le mura furono abbattute ma, grazie anche all'intervento di alcuni notabili dell'epoca, le porte vennero mantenute integre ad eccezione di Porta San Mamolo e Porta Sant'Isaia.
Porta San Donato fu eretta nel XIII secolo, sulla strada per Argenta e Ferrara ed era parte di un edificio più grande che comprendeva anche una foresteria per le guardie. In tempi più recenti si è spesso discusso della possibilità di demolire l'antica porta storica, per favorire una migliore circolazione del traffico, ma si è infine sempre scelto di preservare l'edificio.

Porta San Donato belongs to the third and most recent city walls ring of Bologna, the Circla.
Built around the XIIIth century, the city walls surrounded the whole city's perimeter, along the streets that nowadays are called i Viali. At the time the city walls had a lenght of more than seven kilometers but nowadays only the gateways and small portions of walls remain.
Between 1902 and 1906 the walls were demolished but, thanks to the intercession of many important men, all the gateways were saved, except for Porta San Mamolo and Porta Sant'Isaia.
Porta San Donato was built during XIII century. The road leaving the gateway led to Argenta and Ferrara. The gateway was part of a bigger building complex, which included loddgings for cityguards. Recently, it has been advanced a proposal for its demolition to ensure a more efficient transportation logistic in the area. However, it has always been chosen to preserve the historical building.
