This location is very dear to my heart. On 18 February 2023, on this field, I proposed to my then-girlfriend. The setting was perfect: Hidden away from the hustle and bustle of town, behind a slight incline... Blue skies... A light breeze blowing... A picnic basket... Some bubbly... A view of Simonsberg... Stellenbosch mountain behind us... It was enchanting... Just the two of us... And an engagement ring hidden in my pocket... However, let me tell you our story and why there is a GEOCACHE hidden here:
We met in 2021. Soon Geocaching became part of our story, looking for hidden gems wherever we go - especially when travelling. In mid-2021 we went on holiday, with her parents, to the Karoo National Park in Beaufort West. By that time I knew I wanted to ask her to be my girlfriend, I just needed to figure out a creative way of doing it. I gave it some thought and I realised that I could be quite creative using Geocaching. I created a fake Geocache page and hid a little dove necklace for her to find at one of the viewpoints in the park (she thought she was looking at a REAL Geocache page, searching for a REAL Geocache). Upon finding the necklace I asked her to be my girlfriend - she said yes! We fell evermore in love, as time passed, and grew closer together. Soon we started discussing getting married and before we knew it we had an engagement ring made. Again I knew I had to get creative and again here I was... using Geocaching. I carefully scouted the location beforehand and I placed a REAL Geocache at this location... The location where I asked her to marry me. I did this before we got engaged, without her knowing, and surprised her with it on the day (she said YES!). This time I chose to place a REAL Geocache, as opposed to a fake one, as it resembles our REAL and eternal love for each other. The REAL Geocache will be on the app and hidden on its spot for decades to come - there is nothing fake about it, just like we will have REAL love for each other for decades and decades and decades, etc. to come.
I sincerely hope you find this location as enchanting and breath taking as I did. Bring that special person, bring a picnic basket and come and enjoy the beautiful view of Stellenbosch while looking for the Geocache.
