Welcome to Max E. Roper Park (West)! This 144.3 acre community park used to be called Interstate Park back in the 1960's when it began. Constant continueous improvements (from tree plantings and disc golf to snowmobile tracks!) were made throughout the 60's and 70's with emphasis in 1967 because Lincoln expected exponential growth near the Belmont and West Lincoln neighborhood's.
Max E. Roper was a passionate citizen who volunteered to oversee the city's parks and recreation operations. Roper was appointed to the City Parks and Recreation Advisory Board in 1946. Roper served for 31 years and was integral to the acquisition of acres of park land including Mahoney, Holmes, Wilderness (personal favorite), and old Interstate Park itself. Roper believed that the parks system is an essential part of any city an dwhen he passed away in 1933 it was unanimouslyvoted by the Lincoln City Council to rename Interstate Park after this dedicated city volunteer.
Roper Park is home to the middle school Cross Country 3k races so this cache will be most difficult on Saturday mornings during the months of September and October due to the influx of muggles in the park. North Star High School also holds a few Cross Country practices here intermitently.
